Mazda Announces Breakthrough Vision for Technology Development

On August 8^th, 2017, Mazda introduced a new long-term vision for technology development titled "Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030" which looks ahead to the year 2030. In order to achieve this vision, Mazda plans to introduce a next-generation engine called SKYACTIV-X in 2019 which will be the world's first commercial gasoline engine to use compression ignition.

The new vision by Mazda aims to take a longer-term perspective and sets out how Mazda will use driving pleasure to help solve issues facing people, the earth and society.

Below is a brief breakdown of Mazda's Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030:

With Mazda's vision of bringing about beautiful earth and to enrich people's lives as well as society, the company will continue its efforts to inspire people through the value found in cars.

Earth:

Mazda will aim to reduce its corporate average "well-to-wheel" CO2 emissions to half of the 2010 level by the year 2030 and achieve a 90 percent deduction by 2050. Mazda plans to achieve these goals by giving priority to efficiency improvements and measures for cleaner emissions. Mazda also aims to perfect the internal combustion engine to reduce CO² emissions.

Starting in 2019, Mazda will introduce electric vehicles and other electric drive technologies to help reduce air pollution.

Society

Mazda plans to develop more advanced safety technologies under Mazda Proactive Safety philosophy with the end goal being the elimination of traffic accidents.

Mazda will also standardize i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety features in markets outside Japan where they are already becoming standard.

By 2025, Mazda aims to standardize its autonomous driving technology, Mazda Co-Pilot Concept, on all of its models.

People
Mazda will further develop its KODO design to raise its vehicle design to the level of art that enriches the emotional lives of all who see it.

It's an ambitious plan by Mazda and one which will help create a future in which people, the earth and society can coexist with cars.
